The next Peterson Family Reunion will be held July 16-19, 2026 at Moors Resort & Marina in Gilbertsville, KY.
The resort is holding a number of rooms for us under “Peterson Family Reunion.” You can call them to reserve one of the rooms in the block (or any available room) which will place it in a reservation under your name.
Moors Resort & Marina offers both lodge rooms (hotel rooms) and standalone cottages as well as RV sites.
As of today 17-Sep-2025, there are a couple cabins and at least 4 lodge rooms still available. Suggest calling Moors at 270.362.8361 to confirm availability and make a reservation.
When you reserve one of the rooms, you will be required to make a deposit of one night’s stay.
Deposit refund policy: The deposit to make a reservation is one night’s room rate. If you need to cancel and you do so at least one month before your stay, they will issue a gift card for the amount of the deposit. The gift card can be used toward a new reservation within 1 year. If you cancel within one month of the start of the reservation, you forfeit the deposit.
To make a reservation, you have to call the resort at 270.362.8361. They are open from 8am-4pm (US/Central) daily.
Getting there
- Address: 570 Moors Rd, Gilbertsville, KY 42044
- Airports: Approximately 2h driving from either Nashville, TN (all major airlines) or Evansville, IN (Delta, American, Breeze, Allegiant)
- Also Paducah, KY (PAH) on Contour Airlines which operates to/from Charlotte, NC. Paducah airport is about 1 hour from Moors resort.
- Driving: about 6h from Chicago, about 12h from Minneapolis

In early September 2025, Dan Norris and cousin Jennifer Garner along with Diane Norris and Anne Poirier stayed a weekend at Moors and learned a lot! We stayed in a 2BR condo/cottage/townhouse. Since it was after Labor Day, it was past the “peak” season, but still plenty of activity and facilities to enjoy.
Here are some additional updates and ideas to help prepare for your stay.
- Food: There are grocery stores within about 15 minutes. Food Giant was a “normal” store that likely has most of what everyone might need and reasonable prices. Walmart Supercenter is about 20 minutes away too (it’s a clean “good” Walmart).
- Food: The onsite bar/restaurant has a salad bar, good food, and a nice large outdoor patio with live music some nights. It is open 7 days a week, but only for lunch and dinner (opens at 11am). There is no place to purchase breakfast on the property.
- Food: There are several options for local food. Benton, KY is about 15 minutes away and has everything from McDonald’s to Parcell’s (a local place with deli, bakery, and coffee shop).
- We tried a place nearby the resort called the “Beer garden” and it was… local. Food was okay (bar-ish food) and the patrons were nice, but also colorful (and lots of smokers on the patio and inside).
- We stopped in Parcell’s and definitely could return there to try the bakery and the deli–both looked excellent. There’s also a gift shop and coffee shop that were very inviting too.
- Food/Activities: We are planning to host a welcome dinner in the outdoor pavilion as people arrive on Thursday July 16. Menu and cost will be shared later.
- Food/Activities: We are also planning to have a dinner on Saturday evening July 18 in the large common room that is attached to the Lodge building. Menu and cost will be shared later.
- This dinner event will have a theme, so stay tuned to know what it will be and ensure you pack a costume!
- Food/Stuff: We noted the area seems to have plenty of Dollar General stores and more than the usual number of Dairy Queen locations.
- Accommodations: Cottages are relatively modern (less than 15yr old) with full sized furnished kitchens including dishwasher. Depending on the length of your stay, you might need toilet paper, dishwasher pods, salt/pepper, coffee/coffee filters (drip coffee pot provided), paper towels, napkins, etc.
- Accommodations: Cottages all have some sort of porch, but outdoor seating is limited. Suggest you bring some lawn chairs or bag chairs to supplement. There are picnic tables in some common areas too. On the end of the Lodge facing the lake, there’s a large patio with chairs and tables that looks very inviting especially for sunset views.
- Accommodations: Golf carts are available to rent for getting around the resort. Generally speaking, it is easily walkable and not too large, but there are some modest hills, so those with mobility challenges may appreciate the ride. If you’d like one, they suggest reserving early since availability may be limited.
- Accommodations: Office open 8am-9pm. Coffee available (keurig with several pod options) for purchase in the office ($3). Lodge has coffee available for lodge guests (since lodge rooms have no coffee available in their rooms).
- Office also has a limited supply of some other essentials like sunscreen, beer, liquor, ice, sodas, bottled water, and some Moors logo merch. Pricing is what you’d expect for a lake convenience store (not inexpensive).
- Accommodations: Check in time is 4pm, but in our case, they texted us at about 9:30am to say our room was ready for check in! Of course, in peak season, it might be different.
- Activities: Mini golf course is fun and free to guests! Get equipment and scorecard from the office desk.
- Activities: Outdoor swimming pool was in good shape and always had someone in it while we were there. Patio/pool furniture and a small gazebo poolside looked like comfortable places to hang out. Pool is located between the Lodge and mini golf
- Activities: Boat rentals (available at the onsite marina) are all pontoons – they have 8 total. Half day or full day rentals (or multi-day I think too). Boats were new in 2025, in great shape. Watch depth as there are shallow parts. The “channel” (the Tennessee River) runs closer to the east size of the lake (yes, river runs through the lake) with depths up to 200′. Outside of that, depths are often 8′ or less, so take care. Boats equipped with depth gauges which can change quickly in some places.
- Food: Pizza shop located inside the marina serves Hunt Brothers pizza. You can call ahead to place an order. One size available (about a typical medium) and it’s “good” (coming from a Chicago suburb opinion). Thin and original crusts available (we tried original). We called in an order, picked it up and took it on the boat for lunch! The same place also has 6 or 8 flavors of hand dipped ice cream.
- Necessary stuff: Marshall County Hospital is about 20 minutes away. I’m only mentioning it so that we can feel better and hope we don’t need to find it!
Events
We plan to coordinate some events during the reunion too. If you have suggestions for other events, please let us know (dannorris@dannorris.com, 630.723.4212). Some ideas so far:

- Cornhole (aka “bags”) tournament
- Euchre (or other card game) tournament
- Sand castle building (there’s a beach there)
Golf cart races(cancelled due to policies 🙂
